Front-end Developer

£30k-£45k (FTE)

We are looking for an experienced VueJS developer to help us improve and add features to our Web App. Quirkos designs qualitative analysis software used mostly by researchers in the social sciences. We launched a Web version of our software a year ago, aiming to build on the visual, colourful and intuitive interface that has made our software so popular. This provides an interface for our in-house developed API, that allows users to work on their projects with live collaboration across our global network of servers. This is now the primary way our users work with Quirkos, and this is our first dedicated Front-End post!

You’ll work with our Lead Developer and Director, to work on priority projects to add features and improve the UI for our research users, as well as our Customer Support lead who helps prioritise ideas and requests from customers.

Ideally you will be experienced in front-end development as part of a team, able to work on your own initiative to implement ideas, improve the flow and layout of our web app, and problem-solve feature suggestions from users. Quirkos has a unique live visual interface that makes UI/UX development fun and engaging, and has a dedicated and engaged user base that make great suggestions for improvements. With our modern VueJS codebase, improvements are easy to test and implement, and our API makes implementing new features straightforward.

There’s great potential to develop as the company grows, with big projects on the horizon to start leading, as well as work on improving design, back-end services and internal automated systems if you have interest. We aim to create a creative environment for developers, with discussions, chat and challenges when needed, but generally try to not be too prescriptive. You'll be an integral part of small development team, that has to be flexible to cover whatever is needed. We are an informal and supportive team, and are excited to welcome new people!

Main Skills:

We are a small company, and have grown organically in the last 9 years while respecting and valuing our staff and customers. As Quirkos advocates for a 4 day week, this post is offering 28 flexible hours a week, allowing us to spend time with our hobbies and families as we need.

You can work in our Edinburgh office, remotely or from home entirely or partially as suits. We’ll provide any IT equipment needed. The role is 4 days a week equivalent, (28 hrs) which can be delivered as and when, giving total flexibility on working hours. We welcome applicants from diverse and different backgrounds, and are committed to engage and change our culture to get the best potential from all applicants. However, you will need to have the right to work in the UK or work as a contractor, as there are now very few options for small businesses like ours to sponsor visa applications. While you can be based anywhere in the world, some of your working hours will need to overlap UK office hours so we can ‘meet’ and discuss projects!

Salary is negotiable based on experience and potential, and we offer generous holiday and pension benefits to match public sector / university offers.
