Today we are excited to finally unleash the new version of Quirkos - Quirkos Web! It has all the main features and ease of use of regular Quirkos, but running in your browser! It's a option available to any Quirkos Cloud users at no additional cost, and puts qualitative data analysis software at your fingertips, where-ever you are.
This means you can use Quirkos on Windows, Mac, Linux, ChromeOS, Android, iOS devices (like iPhones and iPads) without having to install an app, just by visiting the Quirkos website. Just go to www.quirkos.com/web and if you are an existing Quirkos Cloud user, you'll find all your projects there ready to go! You can see a video overview here:
The Web version will be the basis of a new Desktop version later in the year, and already offers lots of new features including:
- Full HTML/rich text support, with tables
- Picture support! Import documents with pictures and code them!
- Emojis! Use them as codes, in comments and in sources
- Greatly improved performance in many tasks (more to come)
- Ability to see all the source tabs!
- More options for queries and filtering sources
- View multiple and stacked overlapping codes
- Dedicated 'mobile' view, optimised for phones and tablets
One of the great things about the web version of Quirkos is that we can keep adding features and fix issues without users having to update anything - just open the page in your browser and you are always using the most recent version. There's definitely lots more polish still to come, after all we've spent 8 years tweaking the layout and behaviour of every button and action. But there are also some features from the Desktop version still to come in the Web in the next few months:
- Full undo/redo
- Structured question projects and CSV/XLXS import and export
- Word export of whole sources
- REFI-QDA import and export (updated to new standard)
- Wordclouds - done!
- Graphs of source properties
- Password protection for projects - done!
- 'Light' theme
- International translations
- + Your suggestions!
So please get in touch (support@quirkos.com) and let us know what you think of the new version, and how we can make it better!
We are also releasing a free update of the Desktop version of Quirkos (the one you have to install on your computer) to Version 2.5 that will improve compatibility with projects created in Quirkos Web. If you are happy with how you are working with your Cloud projects now, there's nothing you need to do. Existing projects won't be affected, and you can keep working with the Desktop app. And if you want to move back and forward between Cloud projects on the Desktop and Web apps, you must install the new update first and note that editing sources created in the Web version is limited on the Desktop to ensure backward compatibility. The Linux version of the update will come next week.
However, we are also no longer going to be updating the Quirkos v1 app. It's already 4 years since we released Quirkos 2, and updates to Windows and macOS make it impossible to continue creating releases for this older version (nearly 9 years old!). However, if it's still working for you, it won't expire, but you may find it increasingly difficult to get working on newer versions of Windows and Mac. In this case, just get in touch, and we will provide a free upgrade to Quirkos 2 to keep you going, and let you keep working on your projects. We maintain our commitment to permanent licences and support for Quirkos!
You can try Quirkos Web now! Just visit (and bookmark) https://www.quirkos.com/web and if you are trying Quirkos Cloud for the first time, there's a link to register for a free 14 day trial!
