Quirkos Web: December 2024 Updates

Quirkos Web: December 2024 Updates

Just in time for new year, we've updated Quirkos Web with some big new features and updates. And the first one is a real blast from the past!

Yes, as you can see in the image above, the Add Quirk (+) button in the top right of the screen is back! We've taken a lot of feedback from users in the last few months, and making it clearer how to add codes was a key request. We've looked at a lot of ways that people were struggling to learn the first steps in Quirkos. There's new information when you start a new project, and better labeling on the main screen as to what you can import.

But bringing back the old Add Quirk button from the desktop app makes it easier to use Quirkos on iPads or touch screen devices too.

We've also added the REFI-QDA exchange standard qdpx file import! We know a lot of you are moving over from Nvivo and Atlas.ti recently, so adding the ability to import project files directly in Quirkos Web was a priority.

We've also been working on a lot of new visualisations and outputs that show how codes have been used across sources, and ways to explore connections in the data. These have all been added to a much improved main Report page, with updated styling and lots more options to order outputs in different ways. Play around and let us know what you think!

There are also a bunch of bug fixes that improve reliability of undo-redo when editing sources, and some improvements to the server to improve timeouts. If you want to try the changes, can have a Quirkos Cloud account, just login to www.quirkos.com/web today! Or register here if you want a free 14 day trial.

However, there's also a major announcement to make, next month will see the release of Quirkos 3!

Our offline qualitative analysis software Quirkos 2 first came out in 2018 and hasn't been updated in a while, as we've been working on a completely new version. This brings the same new capabilities and interface from Quirkos Web to the offline desktop app. We know that many of you still prefer a one-off licence for Quirkos, or need to store confidential qualitative research data only on your own computer. But now with a common interface and feature set, it will be a lot easier to learn and use our documentation. While the offline version still won't support live collaboration or the transcription service of Quirkos Cloud, everything else will be the same, and the years of improvements to Quirkos Web (especially with speed) now are available for everyone.

There will be a small upgrade fee for people who want to move from Quirkos 2 to Quirkos 3, but this will be free for anyone who brought Quirkos 2 in the last few months. And if you are happy with the layout and features of Quirkos 2, there's no forced upgrade! We still support people using Quirkos 1, and maintain full compatibility, so you can keep using your permanent licence, and even work with others on other versions of Quirkos. We don't believe in forced upgrades, we are primarily here to support researchers, not create profit. As always, we've taken a different line to many of our competitors, listening to our customers and ensuring we don't share any of your data with third parties, don't have 'AI' analysis and don't partner with 'AI' data scrapers like OpenAI.

So watch this space in the new year, as Quirkos 3 will go out for beta testing this week! And if you want to give it a go, or ever have any feedback, email us at info@quirkos.com
