Quirkos 3 is released: our best offline qualitative analysis software

Today we are launching the newest, updated offline tool for our simple qualitative analysis software: Quirkos 3!

Quirkos 3 brings the updated visual interface and new features from Quirkos Web in your browser, and brings it to a fully offline desktop app you can install on Windows, Mac and Linux. We are listening to our users, and so Quirkos 3 is an entirely offline app, with no 'AI' features. No data is shared with us or anyone else (not even how often it's used), and so if you are working with confidential data, or you have restrictions on storing data in the cloud, Quirkos is likely the most secure and confidential option for your qualitative software. Of course, this also means that backing-up the data is up to you: you need a safe and secure place to save on your own computer, and not on a cloud service like OneDrive or iCloud.

Quirkos 3 not only includes a greatly updated visual interface, it also has improved reports, with a lot more information that people have been requesting. There are now tables and visualisations that show how often certain themes/quirks are used in each source, correlations between codes, and improved graphs and pie-charts for source properties.

Quirkos 3 will greatly simplify the learning process for Quirkos - it now doesn't matter if you are using the Desktop App or Quirkos Web in your browser, the interface and capabilities are the same. Our training and support materials are updated for Quirkos 3, and freely available without any registration or requiring you to signup for a course or ebook.

Quirkos 3 also supports importing projects in the REFI-QDA exchange standard, we know a lot of people are wanting to move their projects from NVivo and Atlas.ti since their corporate takeover, and this standard also supports other tools like MAXQDA and Dedoose. This makes it much easier for people to try Quirkos for the first time, and see how easy and affordable qualitative software should be.

As always, we are not removing Quirkos 2 for those that want it, and will continue to support it. There is full forward and backwards compatibility between Quirkos 2, Quirkos 3 and Quirkos Web, and between Windows, Mac and Linux. You can always share data between people on different operating systems, and those working in Quirkos Cloud or offline if you need to. Of course this also gives you the flexibility to move to Quirkos Cloud or offline if you needs change in the future.

For anyone that brought Quirkos 2 in the last 3 months (since October 2024), we'll offer a free upgrade to Quirkos 3 - just drop us an email at support@quirkos.com. If you are using Quirkos 2 (or Quirkos 1!) and want to upgrade to get the latest features, just contact us at support@quirkos.com and let us know which sector discounts you qualify for - there will be a small fee to upgrade that is different for student/education/commercial sectors. Current and new users can all download and try Quirkos 3 for 14 days for free now: no registration or obligation, and go back to Quirkos 2 or Quirkos Cloud anytime, your projects won't be affected.

But if you don't need any of the new interface or reporting features in Quirkos 3, there's no need to upgrade! We don't do forced upgrades or planned obsolescence, and will continue to support you and the permanent licences you've purchased. Our philosophy has always been to support qualitative researchers, not to exploit users' data or budgets. We've never used data for AI training, and have kept prices low for the last decade, making us the most affordable and secure option for individuals and whole institutions.

This ensures your data is stored and available across any device with our end-to-end encryption, and also allows you to do live collaboration at no extra cost, and add our secure and confidential automated transcription option.
